Transportation
Highways
San Carlos is served by US 101 and Interstate 280 for north/south
traffic and is halfway between State Highways 92 and 84 for east/west
traffic across the bay and to the coast. Major local streets are Holly
Street, Industrial Road and El Camino Real (Hwy 82).
Rail
Served by the Southern Pacific main line. Commuter train service is
provided by CalTrain to San Francisco and San Jose from the historic
San Carlos Depot on El Camino near Holly.
Truck
Approximately 50 common carriers are in the area including two with
terminals in San Carlos. Overnight delivery is available to all points
within 500 miles and all California cities.
Bus
Served by regional and local bus service provided by San Mateo County
Transit (SamTrans) from San Francisco to Palo Alto. SamTrans also
coordinates its service with other regional agencies (CalTrain, BART,
Santa Clara County Transit, etc.)
Water
San Carlos is 25 miles from San Francisco port facilities and two
miles from the Port of Redwood City.
Air
San Francisco International Airport is located 11 miles to the north.
San Jose International Airport is 25 miles to the south. The San
Carlos Airport is a local general aviation airport with a control
tower and 2600 foot runway.
