On July 15, at
a meeting of the Chamber Board of Directors, the Board voted to
support AB 904, currently going through the Legislature. This bill
creates the
Plastic and Marine Debris Reduction, Recycling and Composing Act which
prohibits a food provider from distributing disposable food packaging
unless the packaging is compostable or recyclable. The Chamber’s
Green Business Committee recommended support of this bill. It was
determined that, while passage of the bill might cost restaurants and
food providers a bit extra at the beginning, the cost will go down as
demand for recyclable products goes up.
